By the term nutritional genomics we mean the science that investigates that the nutrients of the foods we consume play in the way that they are expressed in our genes, that is, whether the function and expression of our genes are affected of nutrients.
On the other hand, the term nutritional genetics means the science that investigates the way with which our body reacts to the various nutrients depending on the genetic background it has, e.g. if with a given version of a gene one has will gain elevated cholesterol levels if consuming large amounts of saturated fatty acids.
These are essentially two sides of the same coin, two sciences where each focus on a different factor. Nutritional genetics focuses on role of genes, while nutritional genomics in the role of nutrients.
Our ultimate goal is to fully understand the correlations between diet, genes and diseases to achieve the coveted personalized diet depending on everyone’s genetic background.
